Crochet Tapestry Pattern Maker

About the tool

A chart should start with the fabric you will make.

Crochet Tapestry Pattern Maker is a free, browser-local tool for turning an image into an editable single-crochet color chart. It uses separate stitch and row gauges because crochet stitches are rarely perfect squares.

Why this tool exists

A pixel grid can look square on a screen and still become stretched in yarn. If your swatch has 16 stitches and 17 rows per 10 cm, those two measurements must be handled separately. The tool calculates the chart dimensions from your intended width, the source image ratio, and both gauge values. The result is an estimate grounded in your own swatch, not a fixed “one pixel equals one square” assumption.

What it does now

The current version supports standard single-crochet tapestry charts. You can choose a photo, reduce it to 2–10 colors, soften isolated color changes, repaint individual cells, undo recent edits, and export a numbered PNG or print the chart. All image processing happens in the current browser tab.

What it does not claim

It does not select yarn brands, guarantee exact color matches, calculate yardage, or replace a blocked swatch. Corner-to-corner and filet crochet use different construction rules and are intentionally outside this version.
